Jean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990 and went on to complete a Master of Science in Public Administration at the University of Missouri-Columbia while working as a graphic designer. But law school was calling and she earned her law degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, where she was a member of the UMKC Law Review and recognized for her work in appellate advocacy.
Jean has dedicated her legal career to public service and holding those who violate the law accountable through the criminal justice system. She served as the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney, leading the office in high-profile prosecutions and launching several innovative programs, including a Conviction Review Unit and a ReEntry program. Jean also spent nearly 15 years as an assistant prosecutor fighting for victims. She is also a former Missouri state legislator, where she was elected by her colleagues as Freshman Democratic Minority Leader and focused on public safety and economic development for the KC region.
Jean is a recognized leader in legal and civic communities, with memberships in the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys and numerous community-based justice initiatives.

When those sworn to protect and serve instead inflict harm, the consequences can be devastating. Police brutality can leave lasting emotional and physical scars, especially when accountability is denied. At Peters Baker Law, we stand and work with victims and their families to demand justice. If you or a loved one has been injured by law enforcement, it may be time to take legal action.
Law enforcement is permitted to use force, but that power has limitations. When officers cross the line, during a traffic stop, arrest, or while in custody, the result should be reviewed with a critical eye. Excessive force cases are serious and complex. Here at Peters Baker Law, we bring a prosecutor's insight and a plaintiff's heart to every case. If you believe force was used against you unjustly, we're here to help you fight back.
Being in custody should never mean being subjected to cruelty. Abuse in jails and prisons can include physical violence, sexual assault, medical neglect, or unsafe conditions. These acts are not only morally wrong, they're unconstitutional. Peters Baker Law works tirelessly to expose these abuses and hold institutions accountable. If you have suffered behind bars, legal help is available.
Discrimination, whether based on race, gender, disability, national origin or age, undermines not just your career, but your dignity. Whether you’re being paid less because you’re a woman, passed over for a promotion due to your race, or pushed out of your job because of your age, the impact is real and illegal. At Peters Baker Law, we understand how these injustices play out in Kansas City workplaces and across Missouri. We represent individuals who’ve been sidelined, silenced, or retaliated against. Let us help you assert your rights and demand better.
